About the Author
Emma Brennan trained as a broadcast journalist and worked for the BBC and independent radio, as a newsreader, researcher and reporter. She has written features for both newspapers and magazines on everything from current news to health issues, and of course fashion! In 1992, alongside freelance writing, she started her own business, Charlie's Aunt, designing and producing handmade ‘vintage inspired’ clothing and hats. She is a qualified further education tutor and has taught courses in handbag, accessory and jewellery design. small clutches

I make and sell bags to supplement my fabric habit and am always picking up a few books. The front cover appealed to me so I purchased this book. All these bags are just a front and back of fabric sewn together. Other than the outside of the bags decorations, all these bags are just a front and back sewn together. If you are looking for a small evening bag to carry a lipstick and maybe a small walet or cell phone then this book might be right for you. If you need a functional purse with pockets and places for keys, pens, etc keep looking for another book. Luckly I got a good deal on this book so not out to much money

The book to have if you only have one

I have been making handbags and totes for years, and own many, many books and patterns on the subject, but I still learned new things from this book. It would be the one resource I would have if I could only have one. From the tools and techniques in this book, you could go on to make any kind of handbag. Curiously, I didn't buy this when it first came out because I don't like the looks of the bag on the cover. It's my least favorite looking bag in the book, but the exterior looks really don't matter--from what is learned by using this book, you will be able to create any look you desire.

Fun & Fabulous Bags!

Although I have not yet made one of these bags, I have read through much of the book, scrutinized the understandability of the techniques explained, and perused the patterns at the back of the book. I have found it to be an excellent book for someone who is a fairly experienced sewer, as I am. If you are a beginner, this might not be the book for you unless you have someone who can help. Overall, I am extremely impressed with this book, the illustrations in the techniques section, the variety of purses offered, and the chance to learn new techniques in sewing (since I have not yet made any purses, just clothing and quilts). If you are an experienced sewer and interested in making vintage purses/bags, you can't go wrong with this book!
