An almanac--for Whovians
By Just ask me!
Trivia fans used to wait anxiously for annual almanacs, which contained all manner of information useless to most of the world but fascinating to us. Now that we have the Internet, there's no such anxiously awaited occasion at the end of the year, but Doctor Who: Who-ology is a rich source of Doctor Who trivia.
Since the 50th Anniversary episode in November promises to reference all the Doctors and many episodes, this is a great review book for anyone who wants to ensure s/he gets every shout-out.
The book doesn't quite include all fifty years--the second half of Season Seven, aired in 2013, is not included--but there's enough to keep any Doctor Who fan enthralled, with a fifty-year timeline of significant events, lists of minor characters and charts of episodes and companions.

A Doctor Who Must Have!
By Smitty
I stumbled upon this book and flipped through it fully expecting to not want it, but even just a casual flip through revealed the brilliance in this little treasure. The book is filled with interesting bits of trivia, facts, and statistics about the long run of Doctor Who. Having been a fan of Doctor Who for over thirty years my initial thought was that it was going to be some tired rehash of things that I already knew. I am so pleased to say that it is not! After having glimpsed through the book I quickly decided that I wanted it. Here is what I think this book has going for it:
1. The price. You can't go wrong with the quality of the book for the price you pay for it. The pages are not high quality paper, but making them so would have made the book cost far more. Ultimately it is a book that you are going to want to flip through and refer back to when watching a particular episode, and for that purpose the paper is perfect.
2. The content. Clearly written with love for both the new and classic versions of Doctor Who. The book seamlessly weaves the two series together. It includes facts, figures, charts, and lists of all sorts and each of them interesting in their own way. All of it well researched (although in the interests of being impartial I will note that the map of the locations that Doctor has visited does place Nevada much closer to Kansas than it should be, but I expect that we can let that pass).
3. Readability. Formatted like those Uncle John's Bathroom books, this is a book that you can read either straight through or flip about from section to section. It can be read in short installments while you are waiting in a reception area or during a commercial break. And it is accessible to a wide audience, my eleven year old son enjoys it as much as I do.
My final word on it is this, do yourself a treat and get this book.

Not What I Expected
By Amazon Customer
I'll confess up-front that the three-star review is a reflection of the book not meeting my expectations, rather than something terrible about the book itself.

The book is smaller than expected - about the size of a paperback novel - rather than the coffee-table sized book I expected. (I should have checked the dimensions before I ordered it!) And the paper is mass-market paperback quality, not glossy. And, there are no photographs reproduced in the book, only a few drawings by way of illustration. Lastly, a large part of the content truly is miscellany - lots of odds-and-ends, of varying degrees of interest.

Having said all that, it is fun to read - if you dip into it occasionally. (I keep my copy in the bathroom!)

Do not buy this book as a single 50th Anniversary souvenir. But, if you read this review and the book still sounds okay to you, you will probably love it - for what it is.
