Our daily interactions are based on recognizing people. As information technology advances, our interactions will be accomplished through newly designed interfaces, with a vital element being the automated process of recognition of a person’s real identity: Biometrics. In recent years, biometrics has moved from using fingerprints, to many different methods of assessing human physical and behavioural traits.

Few books give you clear and basic info on programming. I have made it through about half the book and was very pleasantly surprised how it brought together all the various technologies used in mobile apps and explained them clearly. Very happy with this purchase.

Helps you get started but examples don't work

Not recommended. Examples must be out of date because they worked in neither platform. I found better examples online but apparently the others didn't test their code before publishing examples or put in examples that weren't simple enough to be carried over to later versions.

Not recommended for any development after 2012.

About the Author
Randolph G. Bias is an associate professor in the University of Texas at Austin School of Information. With a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from The University of Texas at Austin, Bias spent two decades in industry as a human factors professional, addressing software usability for AT&T Bell Labs, IBM, and then BMC Software where he founded and managed the usability department.

Dr. Deborah J. Mayhew is owner and principal of Deborah J. Mayhew & Associates, a consulting firm based in Massachusetts, offering courses and consulting on all aspects of Usability Engineering and user interface design. Clients include American Airlines, AT&T, Ford,Harvard Univeristy, and NASA. Dr. Mayhew received her Ph.D. in Experimental Cognitive Psychology from Tufts University. She is the author of Principles and Guidelines in Software User Interface Design (Prentice Hall), a coeditor of Cost-Justifying Usability (Academic Press), and a contributor to Human Factors and Web Development.

Resource for defining the costs of poorly designed systems.

If you are looking for help with quantifying the cost of bad interface design and/or how poorly designed application costs the company money, then this is the book for you.
This book is practical and right on target for helping IT groups and customers understand the importance of systems that allow work to be completed efficiently. The authors do a great job quantifying the cost of poorly design, unusable system.
If you have ever tried to demonstrate to an IT group that it is more costly not to change the system, then this book will give you the strategy for showing how investing in system changes actually costs less in the short term, than in the long term.
End users will cheer anyone who applies the information in this book to the applications they use.

Sharp, wise and practical

I've used this book both as a manager, working with individuals and my work team, and also as a consultant and facilitator working with client groups. Tools are everything

Bought this for my son who was struggling with his anatomy class in college. He is not pre-med, this was for his Exercise Physiology and Nursing double major. It turns out this book is so much more clear, detailed and useful than his assigned anatomy textbook, and it has helped him immensely. Now he's doing fine. Tools are everything.

Great book with lots of specific part labeling and detail

I bought this book for my girlfriend cause she needed it for school. We had originally went to Barnes and noble and bought one for 80$ and the book did not even contain the material that this one has. Overall My girlfriend returned the other book and kept this one. She is still using it til this day.

good Atlas for Anatomy

It's a good book! I was able to find many of the terms for class but I wish it had more because there were a few times where i had to google image something. Other atlas' have real images instead of drawings which i do enjoy especially if working with a cadaver in your Anatomy lab. Other than that it's a decent book with good info for such a cheap price. I look forward to using it some more!

Good topic, less than great message

As an elementary school counselor, I use several of Julia Cook's books for classroom guidance lessons and with individual students and they are mostly great! This one, however, isn't going to make the cut because most of the solutions offered to the anxious main character are unrealistic or place the responsibility on adults. There are better books out there to help kids with worries and anxiety.

Great kids book, but wish the parts of the book that rhymed had some better follow thru (a few sentences rhyme then a non-rhyme sentence, then back to a rhyming sentence in the same paragraph... not that I expect the book to rhyme).

I like how it has a good overview of kids anxiety & how it can be dealt with.

Wow! What a book!!

I started The Black Widow yesterday and finished it today because I couldn’t put it down – seriously, I only slept 3 hours last night because I had to keep going back to this book. I’ve read every book in Daniel Silva’s Gabriel Allon series, and this is one of the very best. The Black Widow takes the issue of ISIS head-on, dealing with things that have occurred already, and things that could occur, but hopefully won’t. This book really resonated with me because it brings most of the action to the United States for the first time in the Allon series – a nightmare scenario to be sure, but all the more interesting since we’re the subject. Also, the plot line of this book is well developed, crystal clear, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The book starts with a major act of terror by ISIS in France. In order to inherit a previously unknown Van Gogh painting willed to him by a prominent friend killed in the attack, the French government wants Gabriel to find the perpetrators. This leads the Office team to recruit a woman doctor in Jerusalem and train her to infiltrate ISIS. It’s discovered that a major ISIS strike in the United States is imminent, and the intelligence services of Israel, Jordan, France, England, and the United States work together to try to stop it from occurring. Writing from Gabriel Allon’s Israeli perspective, Mr. Silva is blunt in characterizing the strengths and weaknesses of the countries intrinsic to the story, including ours. He is so well-informed and prescient about what the bad guys of the world are up to, that whenever I read any of Mr. Silva’s books I wish they were required reading for everyone in government. That all this brilliant insight is given to us in the form of a story so well-written and engaging is Mr. Silva’s unique talent. I even devour the author’s notes and acknowledgements – even these are interesting. I can’t say any more than this – if international intrigue and a great story are things you enjoy, this book will give it to you in spades. Buy the book – it’s great!

THE BEST YET IN THE GABRIEL ALLON SERIES!

The Black Widow by Daniel Silva takes the series to a new level as Gabriel Allon stands at a crossroad. He is no longer the same person. I’m a huge fan of author Daniel Silva and his fictional character Gabriel Allon. I have read all the books in the series. While some of them are truly outstanding, there have been some mediocre ones as well, though their capacity to entertain remained. Yet, of all the books in the series, The Black Widow is definitely the best. The characters are formidable. The plot is mounted on a lavish scale and author Daniel Silva’s writing is as sharp as ever, if not better. What makes the book so special is not just the twists and turns and the suspense and thrills but the refinement with which the story is told. There are no grey areas to doubt the authenticity of his description and setting. Marked by political trickery and driven by his passion to avenge, there is no dull moment reading The Black Widow by Daniel Silva.

EXACTLY the same plot as the last 6 Allon books.

It's amazing, the plots in this series are EXACTLY THE SAME!!
- brutal attack(s) by Islamic terrorists
- Israeli service asked to track them down
- Allon and his team recruit a civilian to infiltrate the terrorist organization; the civilian initially refuses, but then relents
- the civilian is successful, at first, but then the Israeli plot is ultimately discovered and the civilian captured
- Allon and his team rescue the civilian and kill the terrorists, but no before more attacks take place.

Remarkably, even though i know the outline of the story before starting on page one, I still read all of Silva's novels and find them enjoyable. But it's getting tiresome. - he's even recycling dialogue - so perhaps Silva needs to think of something original next time.

Excellent book on a subject which is a global problem; white collar deviance/crime. The author is a Berkeley professor who is now at the University of N. FL and has been writing about this subject for 25 years. This is a MUST READ for the public to understand the causes of elite deviance to the structure of power and wealth in the United States covering corporate crime, political corruption in historical & contemporary contexts, and the relationship between the two. And, how the terms "Elite Deviance" and "Higher Immorality" relate to case study involving manipulation of public opinion. This is "Required Reading" for everyone!
